When I joined Nokia in 2007, I saw the phone as a very intimate object. It was an emotional necessity that connected us to loved ones. We embodied this in a physical form that was shaped by our hearts and our hands. It was Scandinavian Design. My travels to Finland afforded me the opportunity to learn more about the ideals behind one of my favorite design languages. Having grown up in San Diego it was easy to see how the conditions of Northern Europe informed a materials-led approach that was warm, calm and bold.
